Digestion Boosting Ginger Spiced Lassi

When it comes to beverages, Ayurveda offers a few guidelines to help with digestion.

Ice cold drinks are to be avoided at all costs – especially during a meal, as the cold temperature is said to kill the digestive fire.

Instead, it’s suggested to enjoy a cup of a warm drink such as decaf tea or water to help aid digestion

Ideally, it is recommended for the stomach to contain 1/3 solid food, 1/3 liquid and be left 1/3 empty.

Post meal, a cup of lassi (a mixture of diluted yogurt and spices) is a popular digestive aid / sweet treat.

Here is a quick and easy recipe for one of my favorite Lassi drinks. This blend is good for all 3 doshas.

Ingredients

2 cups filtered water ½ cup plain unsweetened yogurt (preferably organic) 1-2 tbsp raw local honey (to taste) ½ tsp fresh ginger, grated ½ tsp cardamom ½ tsp cinnamon

Directions

Place all ingredients in blender and blend for 1-2 minutes. The blending is said to kindle the agni principle of the yogurt making it an excellent post meal digestive aid. It also gives it a rich creamy texture. ENJOY!!
